Medic One

Medic One is Seattle and King County’s pre-hospital emergency care system responding to nearly 50,000 calls for life-threatening incidents each year. Founded in 1976, Medic One paramedics are trained through a joint effort between the University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center and the Seattle Fire Department paramedic training program.

The Medic One Foundation funds paramedic training for all Medic One providers in King County, as well as many communities throughout the region. Other Foundation-funded programs, such as patient care quality improvement and research, benefit pre-hospital emergency care around the world through shared protocols and published research findings. Medic One’s reputation for innovation and excellence in pre-hospital emergency care has grown worldwide.

General Internal Medicine's Dr. Thomas Rea, serving as Director of the South King County Medic One Program, has direct responsibility for the medical performance of the paramedics, and is the liaison between the paramedics and the local community, helping to ensure appropriate and expeditious care.
